On Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris’ office announced that she would return to official duties on Tuesday, after testing negative for COVID-19. His first scheduled event will be an appearance at a pro-choice conference on Tuesday night.

Harris will speak at the 30th Annual We Are EMILY National Conference and Gala. The event follows a leaked draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court showing it could potentially overturn Roe v. Wade in his upcoming decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Roe v. Wade legalized abortion nationwide in 1973.

“The VP will return to work, in person, tomorrow. Per CDC guidelines, she will wear a properly fitted mask with others during the ten-day period,” a statement from Harris’s press secretary said, Kirsten Allen.

Harris tested positive for COVID-19 on April 26, but observed coronavirus protocols, her office said.

The conference “will celebrate the women who are taking the lead in defending our democracy and our right to reproductive freedom,” reads a summary on the organization’s webpage.

The event aims to help “put more pro-choice Democratic women in power for years to come,” the page added.

It is not immediately clear whether the vice president intends to respond to the leaked opinion, which was obtained by Politico and widely circulated online, sparking major debate.

The opinion, written by President George W. Bush-appointed Judge Samuel Alito, asserts that there is no constitutional right to abortion services for women, potentially paving the way for states to regulate or ban the practice.
