Savannah professor helps those released from prison

A South Georgia professor works to help those released from prison reintegrate into daily life. Dr. Maxine Bryant says she’s made it her mission to help those who fall out of the system, and on Saturday, that’s exactly what she’ll be doing. She hosts the “When Is the Debt Paid” conference from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Center on Georgia Southern’s Armstrong Campus. “If we don’t help them, we help them get back into the system,” Dr. Bryant said. “If we want productive citizens, if we want to build the economy, we have to help them succeed.” The conference is designed to help people overcome barriers to reintegration and access community support and resources. This year, the keynote speaker at the event is Kemba Smith Pradia, now a proponent of criminal justice reform. She will share her own story of incarceration.
