LONDON: Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has appointed British Pakistani Makhdoom Syed Tariq Mahmood-ul-Hassan as deputy chairman of the Punjab Overseas Commission.

In a notification issued by the Office of the Chief Minister, Mahmood-ul-Hassan was notified as Deputy Chairman of the Punjab Overseas Commission under Section 3(2) of the Act of 2021 on Pakistan Overseas Punjab Commission. The notification states that Mahmood-ul-Hassan has been appointed with immediate effect.

The notification from Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi’s office says Shaheen Khalid Butt, who has held the post of Vice President until now, has been removed from his post.

The notification reads: “The Chief Minister of Punjab has been pleased to appoint Syed Tariq Makhdoom-ul-Hassan as VC, Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission under Section 3(2) of the Punjab Overseas Commission Act 2021 with immediate effect in place of Mr. Shaheen Khalid Butt. , denitrified.

Mahmood-ul-Hassan is an acclaimed author, philanthropist and legal expert. He holds an LLM and a Commerce degree from the University of Northampton, UK.

He is the UK President of the World Congress of Overseas Pakistanis (WCOP). He previously held the same position under Usman Buzdar. He was then promoted to advise former Prime Minister Imran Khan for Pakistan overseas, and then the PTI government was ousted from the center in a no-confidence vote.

Mahmood-ul-Hassan is the winner of the Brian Tracy Award of Excellence in 2019 and the “Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award” in 2020. He is also the founding chairman of Ali Zamam Trust UK & Pakistan, a charity established at the memory of his two children, who died in a road accident and dedicated to raising disadvantaged and destitute children in Pakistan.

Mahmood-ul-Hassan told this correspondent that he was grateful to the PTI President and CM Elahi for trusting him to serve Pakistanis abroad.

He said Pakistanis abroad face many problems, especially in Punjab, and he will use his new post to work towards solving these problems in line with the vision of the former prime minister.

He said he was reappointed to the same post again after keeping all the promises he made. “When I was appointed as head of the Punjab Overseas Commission last time, I worked day and night to help solve Pakistan’s problems abroad. I used to give regular performance reports to the chief minister and the prime minister’s office. I worked day and night to perform and earn the trust of my leaders. I have again been tasked with delivering for Pakistanis overseas and Inshallah I will do my best.

Mahmood-ul-Hassan said the Chief Minister of Punjab attaches great importance to the millions of Pakistanis abroad and appreciates their contribution like no one else because he has spent a lot of time abroad and that “He understands very well how foreigners feel about Pakistan and the problems they face. .

“The main objectives of the Overseas Pakistanis Commission include the welfare of Overseas Pakistanis, dealing with their genuine grievances which fall within the jurisdiction of the provincial government, protection against land grabbing and other similar risks, facilitating their investments, removing barriers and assisting in policy decisions based on the suggestions received from overseas Pakistanis. I will do my best to work towards the realization of the dream of the Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi,” he said.

The Vice President said CM Punjab was very keen to help Pakistanis abroad and would do his best to work under his supervision.

The Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission is a special institution of the Service and General Administration Department of the Government of Punjab. The Commission is headed by the President, CM Punjab, who delegates his powers to the Vice President to lead the Commission through the Commissioner and the respective Committees.
