FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas Men’s Track and Field announced an addition to the Razorback program in January, with Patrick Kiprop recently signing a national letter of intent to join the Razorbacks.
Kiprop, of Eldoret, Kenya, recently completed the freshman outdoor track and cross country seasons at Fresno Pacific. Two current members of the Eldoret Arkansas team are Emmanuel Cheboson and Andrew Kibet.
In the 2021 NCAA Division II West Region cross country competition, Kiprop clocked a winning time of 30: 12.6 to win the title by nearly 43 seconds and was named the Athlete of the Year for the western region of USTFCCCA. Winning four individual titles in the fall season, Kiprop’s average margin of victory was 29.26 seconds.
Earlier this fall, Kiprop became the first Fresno Pacific athlete to be named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season after winning the UC Riverside Invitational by 33 seconds clocking 23: 07.8 for 8k. The time was the second fastest in competition history, behind the competition record of 22:58 set by Cam Levins of southern Utah in 2011.
In the 2021 track and field season, Kiprop set a career record 9: 08.56 as a finalist in the 3,000m steeplechase at the PacWest Conference Championships and won bronze in the 5,000m. Kiprop set a record of 14: 10.30 in the 5km at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
