Ohio Veteran Women’s Conference set for August 6

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Women’s Veterans Conference is scheduled to take place Saturday, Aug. 6, on the campus of The Ohio State University.

This one-of-a-kind event will once again feature an extensive resource fair along with many other familiar sessions and activities. Last held in 2019 at the Ohio Union, the conference will return to this exceptional venue and feature a full format.

Organizers are shaping this highly anticipated one-day event – one of the largest of its kind in the country – to bring together resources, speakers, workshops, ways to access key information and networking opportunities. The Resource Fair (now at full capacity) is already in the works, allowing veteran service organizations, government agencies, VA program representatives, employers, financial services, volunteer services, and other providers to connect directly with female veterans.

The conference will feature several special guests and two luncheon keynote speakers: Women’s Engagement Team members Kimberly D. Snow and Desiree L. Layne. Both are active duty members. Deborah Ashenhurst, director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services, will also deliver remarks and engage attendees. Additionally, there will be breakout sessions exploring many different aspects of health and wellness, education, and employment, including a representative from Intel.

Along with the breakout sessions, conference attendees can view exhibits honoring women in service and Ohio’s estimated 67,000 female veterans. Organizers also plan to include a women’s history exhibit with a film that looks back on the exploits of the Central Postal Directory Battalion “The Six Triple Eight”, a famous all-female army unit from the time of the Second World War.

The conference will also include access to representatives from the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA); a space for health, empowerment, restoration and relaxation; and multiple networking opportunities.

Registration is still open for the 2022 Ohio Women’s Veterans Conference. For more information, check out conference updates on OhioVets.gov.
