BRENTWOOD, Tennessee – University of Tennessee at Martin star Tate chumley won the Ohio Valley Conference Male Golfer of the Week award, the league office announced today.

This is the second time in Chumley’s career that he has been voted OVC Golfer of the Week and also won the honor on March 4, 2021. He is the second Skyhawk to earn OVC’s top weekly honor this season. as a brother Garret chumley was also crowned on September 29. The Chumleys are the first group of brothers to be named OVC Golfer of the Week in the same season since Murray State’s Nick and Patrick Newcomb in 2012-13. They are also just the second sibling tandem to win the award in UT Martin history – joining Tyler Shellnut (October 10, 2012) and Gavin Shellnut (April 6, 2016).

Chumley claimed her first collegiate victory at the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational, hosted by North Alabama at the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club in Killen, Ala. tournament by three strokes after entering the final round with two headshots. His third round score on Tuesday included six birdies, as his 68 was two strokes better than any of the 66 competitors on the field.

Murfreesboro eldest Tenn., Dominated the tournament for par 3 (2.75, -3) while placing second for birdies (13), third for par 4 (3.97, -1) and fifth for par 5. (4.75, -3). For good measure, Chumley made the team’s top 35 pars – committing just six bogeys in the 54-hole event.

Chumley leads the Skyhawks with an average of 73.2 strokes in 2021-22 as he has now strung three straight top 20 standings. His medal victory on Tuesday was sixth among the top five and 11th.e top 10 of his university career.

UT Martin is back in action on October 25-26 as he travels the state for the Battle at Black Creek event hosted by Chattanooga.
