The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is now ready to accept requests for Medi-Cal vaccine administration for individuals 6 months of age and older. Although COVID-19 vaccines for children under 5 were cleared for emergency use by the FDA in mid-June, the DHCS had urged doctors to hold Medi-Cal claims for administration. vaccines for young children because DHCS had not completed the system and operational changes needed to properly settle claims.

As of July 25, 2022, the Medi-Cal claims adjudication system is now ready to appropriately process claims for all age groups.

As a reminder, DHCS has separated reimbursement for COVID-19 vaccine administration from the Medi-Cal managed care system and reimburses under the paid service delivery system for both medical and pharmaceutical claims.

For more information on submitting requests for the administration of COVID-19 vaccines, consult the DHCS COVID-19 Medi-Cal Response Webpage.
