Devante’ Jack fails in NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifying attempt

San Antonio, TX- Centennial second Devante ‘Jack (Jena, Louisiana) missed his final attempt in the 800-meter race to qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship at Saint’s last chance meet held by Our Lady of the Lake University last Friday.

Jack ran a time of 1:56.18 in the 800m, the event he won last month at the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Trinity University. Jack clocked a conference record time of 1:52.37 and became the first centennial student-athlete to win an event at the SCAC Championships. His bid to qualify for the upcoming NCAA D3 Championships failed interestingly enough in the same city where he previously won and made history.

Jack beat several athletes from Division I schools at the SCAC Championships and his 1:52.37 at the time was 15and-fastest time of the whole season in Division III. He also won the 800m in a previous season’s best of 1:56.85 on April 15 at the Little Rock Twilight and now has four top-10 finishes and a second-place finish in the 800m this season in addition to his two victories. Jack was named SCAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week following his win at the conference meet as his time beat the former conference championship mark of 1:53.50 that was set by Zach Brush by Trinity in 2011.
