Cowboys and Cowgirls release non-conference basketball slates

LAKE CHARLES — The McNeese men’s and women’s basketball teams announced their 2022-23 non-conference basketball schedules on Sunday, slates featuring 11 games combined, including seven against Division I opponents. Southland’s conference is expected to be released sometime in the coming week.

Additionally, McNeese will host the Southland Conference men’s and women’s basketball tournaments March 5-9.

The Cowboys will play six non-conference games and nine league home games while the Cowgirls will play in five non-SLC games and nine conference games.

An early start on Nov. 7 against Ecclesia will kick off the Cowgirls’ season. This date has been designated as Calcasieu Parish School Day as students will be admitted to the 11 a.m. game free of charge.

On Nov. 10, the Cowgirls host UT-Rio Grand Valley out of the WAC, then hit the road for four straight games — Nov. 16 at Illinois, Nov. 19 at Bradley, Nov. 20 at Ohio State and Nov. 22. at Xavier’s. McNeese will return Nov. 29 to host Arkansas State of the Sun Belt, Dec. 1 against North American University and Dec. 14 against ULM. Visits to Ole Miss (December 17) and Texas Texas (December 19) will close the list of non-conferences.

“After last season, we wanted to have more balance between home and non-conference away games,” the second-year head coach said. Lynn Kennedy. “Playing the games away last year gave us some great opponents in Legacy (Centre). We are looking forward to our first Kid’s Game on November 7. It should be a fun environment.

“The non-conference away schedule features some of the best teams in women’s basketball. We’re excited for the challenge and look forward to these games that will help us prepare for SLC play.”

After the Nov. 7 opener against Carver, scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip, the Cowboys will travel to New Orleans to face Tulane on Nov. 12. Following this, the Cowboys will host a Nov. 18-20 Multiple-Team Event (MTE) tournament which will see McNeese Western Carolina on Nov. 18, Lindenwood on Nov. 19e and Lamar on the 20the.

The Cowboys will then hit the road for five straight games for visits to Baylor (November 23), UT Martin (November 28), Tennessee (November 30), Northern Iowa (December 9) and Iowa State (December 11). ).

McNeese will return home Nov. 15 to host UL-Lafayette, then travel to Southern Miss (Nov. 18) and Houston (Nov. 21).

An exhibition game Dec. 29 against Champion Christian will wrap up non-conference action.

“I’m really excited about the schedule for a lot of reasons,” the Cowboys’ second-year head coach said. Jean Aiken. “Having four of our first five games at home is incredibly rare here at McNeese, so it gives us a great opportunity to have some pace and confidence. I’m really delighted to welcome an MTE for the first time in a good will provide a tournament-like setting and set us up for what to expect in March.”

West Carolina is a member of the Southern Conference while Lindenwood is part of the Ohio Valley Conference.

“We have significant challenges ahead for three Top 15 preseason programs in Houston, Baylor and Tennessee, in addition to playing Tulane, Northern Iowa and Iowa State.
