The Wayanad MP’s response came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday that India will start immunizing children aged 15-18 from January 3, 2022 and a ‘precautionary dose’ for health workers and citizens aged 60 and over from January 10. , 2022, amid growing cases linked to the Omicron variant of coronavirus disease.

Hours after Rahul Gandhi’s tweet, the Congress Party held a press conference and criticized the Center for its handling of the pandemic given the possibility of a third wave in the first months of 2022.

Surjewala also demanded that the prime minister take responsibility for his government’s actions. Providing official data, he said the government currently only has 17.74 crore of vaccine available, however, to inoculate the entire adult population, 59.40 crore doses of vaccine are needed. The congressional spokesperson also alleged that 40 Lakh people died during the second wave due to the “criminal negligence” of the government.
