FLINT, MI – Dwayne “Wayne the Barber” Harrington is on a mission to become more than just a barber.
Her partnership with an annual Back to School Free Haircut event, now in its 10th year, helps her do just that.
Over the next two weeks, Wayne the Barber’s Aristotle’s Barber and Beauty store in downtown Flint is collecting school supplies to distribute at the Back to School Free Haircut event later this month.
Fifty Genesee County students will receive free haircuts, manicures and school supplies at the event located at Buckham Alley from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 29. There will also be free food, bounce houses, games and a DJ for the kids. in what the organizer called a âfamily fun community eventâ.
Haircuts and manicure services will take place at Aristotle’s, located just across the alley at 111 West 2nd Street. Harrington and his wife, Tiana Harrington, will administer the haircuts and nail services in partnership with local radio station Z92.7.
âWe want to have fun and just give to those who need it,â Tiana said. “We are looking for a successful event that will show the love of our community.”
The company will continue to collect donations of school supplies until August 29. Currently, they have over 100 backpacks full of school supplies to hand out at the event. Mayor Sheldon Neeley is donating 50 backpacks, Harrington said.
